"Wow! 20 years in business. Congratulations! How did you do it?"
I've been hearing this a lot lately and it's made me think back on the growth and changes that have occurred for me and my business. In retrospect, "growing" a business is very much like a person growing into adulthood.
Rejuvenations started off with the birth of an idea. "What do I want to do?" From there, my young business learned how to stand on its own. Oh sure, there were times when I would stumble and fall. Baby steps... Trying to do too much too soon will trip you up.
Then came time for the school of hard knocks. Life lessons if you will. This happened for me when expanding from being a sole practice to bringing on other therapists. The three most important lessons I've learned are:
Lesson #1: Not everyone is going to have the same thoughts and motives as you. Learn to communicate.
Lesson #2: Life is not a movie. If you build it, they will NOT come. It takes hard work, commitment and constant monitoring on what works and what doesn't. Which brings me to my 3rd and most important lesson.
Lesson #3: No one fails. Let me repeat that... No. One. Fails. Life gives us lessons. We learn them when things don't work out the way we want. That is not failure. This is how we adapt, strive and move forward to what we do want. THAT IS SUCCESS!
How did I do it? I raised my business just as I did my own kids. I instilled a high level of trust, ethic, compassion and standards. I made sure to make good choices and admitted when I made mistakes. I learned when to listen and when to be firm. So now, looking back, I wonder. Did I grow my business or did my business grow me? I think it has been a little bit of both.
I could not have predicted the outcome 20 years ago: the fantastic therapists I get the privilege to work with every day, our clients that tell us what a difference we make in their lives, and the mutual support and respect of our community. All of this makes Rejuvenations what it is today.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting us with your care and supporting us though our journey. Here's to more growth and many more years!
Health & Happiness,
